A Help Desk professional, or support
specialist, is one who provides technical support to people or companies about
computer systems. For many technology students, the help desk is the first step in pursuing an IT career. It
is seen as the initial stage to later achieve something more specialized.
This Help Desk professional is usually
obliged to document
each interaction with the customer by creating a record
and providing a knowledge base for other professionals who may take similar
cases. These professionals usually work in a staggered system where the
first level support does the first service and manages simpler cases and the
second level support takes care of the most advanced issues.
The help desk also receives several other denominations, such
as SAC, Service Desk (which has a wider coverage than the help desk), Service
Center and others, although there are some that have their own peculiarities in
the relationship and customer service.
